As summer arrived across the CSRA, June became one of our busiest—and most rewarding—months of the year. From educational programs and children’s activities to community events and our monthly chapter meeting, Butterfly Monarchy Club volunteers spent the month sharing our passion for butterflies, pollinators, and the habitats they depend on.
Inspiring Gardeners at Our June Chapter Meeting
Our June chapter meeting brought together butterfly enthusiasts from across the community for a morning focused on practical ways everyone can make a difference.
Chapter President Susan Potter and Vice President Pat Dunlop shared simple, effective ideas for creating butterfly-friendly landscapes, selecting nectar plants, incorporating native species, and supporting monarchs throughout their life cycle.
The program concluded with one of our favorite traditions—a live butterfly release—giving attendees an opportunity to witness the beauty of a newly emerged monarch beginning its journey. See the video below.
Reaching Young Nature Lovers at the Aiken County Library
One of the highlights of June was spending time with young learners during our educational program at the Aiken County Library.
Through stories, hands-on activities, and conversations about butterfly life cycles, children discovered how caterpillars transform into butterflies and learned why pollinators are so important to healthy ecosystems.
Watching curiosity grow as children asked questions and shared their own observations reminded us why youth education remains such an important part of our mission.
Butterflies, Crafts and Smiles at Chick-fil-A
Families joined us for an evening of butterfly-themed fun during Chick-fil-A's children's activity night.
Young visitors enjoyed coloring, crafts, educational displays, and opportunities to learn more about monarch butterflies in a relaxed, family-friendly setting. Events like these allow us to introduce conservation in a way that's engaging, memorable, and enjoyable for children of all ages.
Growing Awareness
Every event we host is an opportunity to inspire action—whether that's planting native flowers, adding milkweed to a garden, participating in citizen science, or simply taking a closer look at the pollinators that share our world.
As we move into summer, we're excited to continue that mission through upcoming programs and community events, including the CSRA / NABA Butterfly Count on July 11. We hope you'll join us!
